Fetească Regală

Fetească Regală is a white variety born as a natural crossing of Fetească Albă and Frâncușă (VIVC, confirmed by DNA markers); it was found around 1920 in the commune of Daneș in Transylvania and became known after an exhibition in Bucharest in 1928. The vine is vigorous with a long growing season and ripens about two weeks after Fetească Albă, at 188–215 g/l of sugar and 4.5–6 g/l acidity. In Moldova it covers 299 ha (Register, end of 2019). Aged in stainless steel it gives medium-bodied wines; after oak it becomes fuller and can age.
