Ștefan Vodă

The Ștefan Vodă region covers south-eastern Moldova on the right bank of the Dniester up to the Ukrainian border: the Ștefan Vodă, Căușeni, Cimișlia and Basarabeasca districts. It is the smallest of the three wine IGP zones: about 10 thousand hectares of vineyards by CORINE 2023, active temperatures summing to 3,100–3,250 °C and 390–450 mm of rain a year. Plains, hills and Dniester terraces at 120–160 m catch the breeze from the Black Sea. In the village of Purcari an agricultural school with experimental vineyards opened in 1893.
