Fetească Neagră

Fetească Neagră is an old red variety of Romanian origin (VIVC); the Moldovan wine office traces it to the Prut valley in south-western Moldova. It nearly disappeared from Moldovan vineyards in Soviet times and has since returned: 242 ha in the Register at the end of 2019, and it is named among the red varieties of the Valul lui Traian PGI. Late-ripening and thick-skinned, it tolerates cold and drought and is rich in anthocyanins. It makes rosé and red wines for oak ageing, with notes of berries, cherry, plum and raisin and spices such as cinnamon and pepper.
