Carménère

Carménère is a red variety from Bordeaux (VIVC 2109), with a herbaceous character noted by VIVC; its parentage has been proposed as Cabernet Franc × Gros Cabernet. The vine is vigorous, ripens two to three weeks after Merlot and suffers from poor fruit set, which is why it almost vanished from Bordeaux after phylloxera and found its main home in Chile. It gives deeply coloured, tannic wines with blackcurrant aromas. In Moldova it is rare; Et Cetera grows it at Crocmaz in the Ștefan Vodă PGI.
